Michele Satta

Michele Satta is considered one of the founding fathers of the Bolgheri DOC. He had arrived very young from Lombardy on the Tuscan coast immediately after graduating in agriculture in the 1970s, to work on farms. His first job did not have to do with wine, also because there was still no talk of wine, indeed the vineyard was the least valuable cultivated land in Bolgheri. But things were changing. After the single initiative of Tenuta San Guido with Sassicaia, in the 1980s other wineries began to follow its success. Michele Satta was hired as an agronomist at Ornellaia estate, founded by Lodovico Antinori. At the same time he rented two hectares of vineyards, which still had an affordable price, and began making wine on his own. The business developed quickly and Michele Satta founded his winery in 1983.
Together with Tenuta San Guido, Ornellaia, Grattamacco and Le Macchiole, he is considered one of the founding fathers of Bolgheri wines.
Today, his son Giacomo has supported him in the management of the activities; he will have to carry on the business in the name of continuity. The Michele Satta winery has an articulated range of labels with some originality. His Costa di Giulia was the first Bolgheri Vermentino. Among his reds there is a pure Sangiovese and recently, almost by provocation, he produced a Bolgheri Superiore wine with no Cabernet Sauvignon (the main grape of the territory).
The Michele Satta winery produces 160,000 bottles a year from 25 hectares of vineyards under certified organic farming.
