Masseria Altemura

Agriculture and viticulture are very ancient practices in Salento, dating back to the pre-Roman population who lived there.
Masseria Altemura also has ancient origins, in the Middle Ages the castle and the tower were built with defensive function. The estate extends for 270 hectares in Salento between the towns of Messagne and Manduria in the province of Brindisi.
The property includes 130 ha of vineyards and 40 ha of olive groves, that are impressive for the great brightness they receive and for the breadth of the horizon, being equidistant from the two seas: the Adriatic Sea to the east and the Ionian Sea to the west. In addition to enjoying extraordinary sunlight, this position is also influenced by the winds that sweep away the humidity and bring refreshment at night in summer.
The Venetian Zonin family has owned Masseria Altemura since 2000 and has renovated both the buildings and the vineyards, maintaining the heritage of the native Apulian grape varieties with the aim of contributing to the success of Apulian wine.
The most cultivated variety in Masseria Altemura is Primitivo, but there are also Aglianico and Negroamaro or Falanghina and Fiano as white berried grapes: all typical varieties of southern Italy.
The Masseria Altemura winery has adopted a fully eco-sustainable production philosophy. It produces about 600,000 bottles annually.
