Feudo Maccari

Feudo Maccari is an important Sicilian winery founded in 2000 by the Tuscan entrepreneur Antonio Moretti Cuseri, former owner of Orma and Tenuta Sette Ponti in Tuscany. It started with the acquisition of individual distinct plots in Maccari, on the coastal plain of Syracuse. The area is the Noto Valley, where the climate is very hot and rainfall is scarse; only the proximity of the sea brings refreshment during the night thanks to the sea breezes. The soil is calcareous and volcanic. Nero d’Avola is the black grape variety that dominates in this area, as indeed in all of Sicily. Right here it grows in one of the hottest territories, and wines tend to be rich in body and evolving capacity; thanks to this grape variety, the winery has won unanimous recognition from Italian and foreign critics, becoming a leading player in the wine scene of this area of Sicily.
Feudo Maccari has 50 hectares of vineyards, some of which with vines even 20 or 30 years old. All the vines are bush trained and the vineyards are managed organically. In recent years the estate has also extended to Etna with an additional 10 hectares of vineyards.
