Taurasi 2015
Taurasi is an important red wine from Campania, made from Aglianico grapes. It is considered “the Barolo of the south” because, like Barolo, it is a full body, complex and long-lived wine. Aglianico is a great native black berried variety that ripens late, in fact it is always harvested in late October, sometimes even in early November. This allows Aglianico to accumulate phenols and flavors. The territory of Irpinia also favors structured and long-lived wines thanks to the soil with clay, limestone and volcanic ash and also thanks to the cool climate with significant diurnal temperature range due to the altitude of the vineyards.
The grapes are de-stemmed and crushed and fermented in wooden barrels with maceration on the skins. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and ages for at least one year in oak barrels.
