Similce 2019
A unique production of the Cantina di Casteggio is the Pinot Bianco Similce, inspired by the Iberian princess, wife of Hannibal, the Carthaginian leader who, according to tradition, passed through Casteggio with his legendary elephants in 218 B.C. (where the famous Hannibal fountain is located).
After the grapes are destemmed, maceration takes place for a few hours at a controlled temperature of 8°C. This is followed by soft pressing to extract the first part of the must, and finally ageing in steel for a minimum of six months with frequent bâtonnage. The wine has a light golden yellow colour and citrus textures that make it distinctive. On the palate, the Pinot Bianco Similce reveals a full and fragrant aroma, enriched by a pleasant savouriness and freshness.
