Sicilia Zibibbo Lighea 2022
Zibibbo is a synonym for Moscato d'Alessandria, which is an aromatic white grape variety, from which much loved sweet wines are produced. However, Lighea is a dry white wine; it has the aromatic scent of Moscato, even though it is vinified with no residual sugar. The grapes come from the volcanic island of Pantelleria, from terraced vineyards between 20 and 400 meters above sea level; the vines are bush-trained in hollows dug into the ground; the yields are very low. The wine is suited to being served as an aperitif or, thanks to its strong flavor, it can be paired with meals. The name "Lighea" is that of a mermaid in a tale by Tommasi da Lampedusa and is represented in the label of this Mediterranean-inspired wine.
The harvest takes place in several steps depending on the altitude to harvest grapes at the perfect moment of ripeness. The grapes are pressed and the must ferments in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The wine rests in the same steel tanks for two months before being bottled.
