Mille e Una Notte 2019 (con astuccio)
This wine was a milestone not only for Donnafugata's success, but also for the success of all Sicilian wines. The first vintage was 1993 and immediately won favorable reviews from journalists and consumers. The vineyards are located in the hills between 200 and 600 m a.s.l. and have clayey and calcareous soils in the Contessa Entellina area in the province of Palermo. The idea behind the Mille e una Notte is to enhance the Sicilian grape variety par excellence, Nero d'Avola, by blending it with a small part of international grape varieties that increase its complexity and support its structure without overpowering it. A modern wine making based on low yields (50 q / ha) and aging in French barriques completes the project.
The harvest is manual with careful selection of the bunches. A second selection is made on a sorting table in the cellar. The grapes ferments in steel vats at a controlled temperature with 14 days of maceration. The wine also undergoes malolactic fermentation and subsequently ages in new French oak barrels for 14 months and for 3 years in the bottle.
