Pinot Noir is normally a solitary grape variety, at least when it is fermented as red wine. It hardly occurs in blends, because its delicate nature would be obscured by almost any other grape.
It took a wine lord - as Angelo Gaja was also called - to convince Pinot Noir to coexist with the native Dolcetto.
