Langhe Chardonnay Gaia & Rey 2020
Gaia & Rey is a 100% Chardonnay produced by the Gaja winery in the Langhe since 1983. Angelo Gaja had planted Chardonnay in 1979, to make up for the lack of a successful white grape in the Langhe (the Arneis grape is in fact a grapes of the Roero, that is the area north of the Tanaro river). The Langhe area has proved extremely favorable to the cultivation of Chardonnay and Gaia & Rey was the first great white wine to be produced in the Langhe, an area suited to the production of great red wines. Also in this Angelo Gaja was an innovator. The name Gaia & Rey is a family dedication, in particular to Gaia, the first daughter of Angelo Gaja and to Clotilde Rey, Angelo's grandmother.
Chardonnay grapes ferment in steel vats at a controlled temperature. The wine also carries out malolactic fermentation and ages in French barriques for 9 months.
