A pure Merlot in Montalcino might seem like a provocation, but it demonstrates the potential of Tuscan territory. The conditions that make Brunello di Montalcino great also make one of the most beloved grapes great: Merlot.
Merlot is loved for its aromatic potential and its smoothness. Lamaione is a concentrated Merlot, able to satisfy any consumer looking for intensity and persistence.
The wine is produced with extreme craftsmanship: manual harvest, selection of the bunches, de-stemming and subsequent manual selection of the grapes. Only the best Merlot berries go in the steel vat where the alcoholic fermentation takes place with 3 weeks of skin contact. The wine ages in 80% new French barriques for 24 months and then in the bottle for another 12 months.
Features
Colour: deep, lively ruby red.
perfume: really lush and penetrating on the nose with strong fruity notes of mulberry, plum and blueberry, followed by hints of chocolate and coffee to finish with a broad spicy trail.
Taste: it is a bold wine, of great power and smoothness; it lingers with fruity and balsamic flavors in the long finish.
Suggestions
Lamaione can be enjoyed at the end of a meal paird with aged cheeses or a cigar. At lunch it matches roasted beef or venison as well.
