Franciacorta Brut Milledì 2019
Ferghettina called Milledì its vintage Franciacorta, because the aging on the lees in the bottle lasted exactly one thousand days (“Milledì” in Italian sounds like 1000 days). Today the period is actually longer, but the name has not changed. It is a blanc de blancs Franciacorta, produced from only Chardonnay grapes, it has an elegant and refined taste as you would expect from a fine blanc de blancs, based on a gentle acidity and a well-balanced minerality. The grapes of Franciacorta Milledì come from 12 different vineyards belonging to Ferghettina located in different villages within the appellation, managed according to organic farming. The vineyards are located on gentle hills at an average altitude of 250 meters above sea level. The microclimate in the area is mild and conditioned by both the proximity of Lake Iseo and the mountains further north, which guarantee a significant diurnal temperature range. The soil of morainic origin, consisting of accumulations of mineral substances in the form of sand and gravel, influences the precision of the aromas and the lean character of the taste. Franciacorta Milledì has been produced since 2007 and is offered in an exclusive bottle with a square base, which makes it immediately identifiable.
The grapes are harvested by hand in mid-August. Whole bunches are softly pressed to extract only the purest free-run must. This is clarified and fermented in steel vats at a controlled temperature. After a few months in steel, the base wines undergo the second fermentation, according to traditional method, directly in the bottles closed with a crown cap. After 48 months the sparkling wine is disgorged and dosed with 4 g / l of sugar, also qualifying as Extra Brut; it is finally closed with a cork and a cage.
