Chianti Rufina Nipozzano Riserva 2019
The Riserva Nipozzano is a Chianti Rufina produced in the Castello di Nipozzano estate of the Frescobaldi on the left bank of the Val di Sieve a few kilometers from Florence. The Castle is located at 350 meters above sea level and dominates the confluence point of the Sieve into the Arno. The vineyards belong to the Rufina area of the Chianti DOCG, renowned for the production of structured wines based on Sangiovese. Among the various sub-areas of the Chianti DOCG appellation it is in fact the one with the highest and above all northernmost vineyards and close to the Apennines. The wines of this area were the most consumed wines by the Florentines in the past centuries. They are distinguished by a characteristic predisposition to long aging thanks to acidity and tannins, always present. This is due to the climatic and geological conditions of this area. The microclimate is conditioned by cool winds from Mugello and the soil is rich in galestro and alberese rocks, ideal for the cultivation of Sangiovese.
In 2017 the harvest began at the end of August and the picked grapes were immediately de-stemmed and fermented in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature with maceration on the skins. After racking, the wine also underwent malolactic fermentation in steel vats; it was then decanted into barriques where it aged for about two years.
