Alto Adige Cabernet-Merlot 2022
Cabernet sauvignon and Merlot are the main ingredients of the so-called Bordeaux blend, or the blend that made Bordeaux wines famous and that has been imitated all over the world from Bolgheri to California. In Alto Adige the French varieties have been cultivated for over a century as they were introduced during the Austrian domination and are set in the valley floor where the climate is mild and has the same hours of sunlight as the Bordeaux vineyards. The soil is also favorable for the cultivation of these varieties: it is of alluvial origin, well drained with limestone and clay. This red wine from Cantina Kaltern's classic line is produced with grapes harvested on hillside vineyards around Lake Caldaro between 230 and 350 meters above sea level.
The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature with a maceration of 10 days. After racking, the wine also carries out malolactic fermentation and ages for 10 months in barriques, large barrels and concrete vats.
