Vaira's family moved to Bolgheri from Molise in the 1950s to devote themselves to agriculture, long before the explosion of the Bolgheri wine phenomenon. When wine became the highest-paying agricultural product in the area, it was natural to focus on increasing the vineyard and start producing the wines of the newly created Bolgheri appellation.
Today Tenuta di Vaira owns 50 hectares of land and 13 hectares of vineyards planted with Cabernet sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Vermentino. Most of the vineyards are located east of the Via Bolgherese on the deeper soils and suitable for the production of great Bordeaux blended reds. The characteristic microclimate of this area, windy and dry in summer and the soil rich in minerals, favor the cultivation of the vine.
The winery is always managed on a family level, with the participation of two generations.
