Founded with an enormous reclamation work in 1899 by 2 Piedmontese, who gave it their names, Sella & Mosca is not only the main winery in Sardinia for outcome, but also the largest estate in the region and one of the largest in all over Europe with 560 hectares of vineyards. Over 500 hectares are a single body in the province of Alghero; the rest is divided between Gallura and Sulcis.
In 2002 the ownership passed to the Campari group and in 2016 to the Terre Moretti group, to which Bellavista in Franciacorta and Petra in Tuscany belong among other things.
All the vineyards are conducted with organic farming, many are already certified organic, the others are in conversion. The quality is growing and the classic method sparkling wines have been added to the already very articulated classic production.
In large numbers, production is inevitably articulated and includes different types and ranges of labels; whites make up the lion's share and the most cultivated vine is Torbato, native to the Alghero area, from which interesting traditional wines are produced. In addition to Torbato, Sella e Mosca cultivates the main Sardinian grapes such as Cannonau, Monica, Carignano and Vermentino; partly also international vines from which it produces important labels.
The production philosophy, despite the fields owned, has always been to enhance the territory and the Mediterranean character of Sardinian wines.
