Marco Felluga

The Marco Felluga name represents one of the main players in Friulian oenology. It was founded by Marco Felluga in 1956 in Gradisca d’Isonzo on the border between Friuli and Slovenia; today it is run by his son Roberto, who has also associated with the historical brand "Marco Felluga" that of "Russiz Superiore" in Capriva del Friuli. These are two wineries in the Collio, both in the province of Gorizia, run by the same property. First Marco and then his son Roberto specialized in the cultivation of the typical grape varieties of Collio, with the aim of enhancing the wines of the area. In fact, their labels are considered to be reference points of Friulian wine and their wines are always reliable and corresponding to a precise and territorial style.

The Collio hills enjoy a privileged position, as they are only 30 km from the Adriatic Sea and are protected behind by the mountains (the Pre-Alps and the Julian Alps). This results in a mild climate, with warm and sunny days that allow the grapes to ripen perfectly, the ever blowing winds push humidity away and at night temperatures drop, allowing the development of flavor compounds in the grape skins. Furthermore, the Collio has a unique soil of sedimentary origin; it is a former seabed with compacted and stratified sandstone and clayey marl, forming a friable rock, of the Flysh type, locally called “Ponca”.

The vineyards of the Marco Felluga winery extend into 4 villages of the Collio: Farra d’Isonzo, San Floriano del Collio, Oslavia and Cormòns. On the contrary, the vineyards of the Villa Russiz winery are all around the headquarters in the village of Capriva del Friuli. One of the characteristics of Roberto Felluga's wines is the longevity of his whites: wines that can be enjoyed when young, but with the ability to evolve slowly over time as if they were red wines.
