Collio DOC Pinot Grigio Mongris 2023
Marco Felluga's Mongris wine is a selection of the best Pinot Grigio grapes grown in the villages of Farra d’Isonzo, San Floriano and Cormòns in its own vineyards. The very name "Mongris" is the contraction of the words “monovitigno” (in Italian "single variety") and "Grigio". The grape of French origin Pinot gris has been cultivated in the Collio since 1800 and has found ideal conditions to turn into powerful, pronounced and seductive white wines. It is considered a gray grape variety, as the berries have a dark pink color when ripe and the wines also tend to have dark colors, sometimes with coppery reflections. Pinot grigio wines have a creamy and soft texture with a rich fruity flavor. The Collio Pinot Grigio also takes on a savory and mineral character thanks to the typical soil of the area, the so-called “ponca”, of sedimentary, well-draining and calcareous origin.
The Pinot Grigio grapes are harvested by hand. They are de-stemmed and left to cold macerate in contact with the skins before the start of alcoholic fermentation. With a gentle pressing, the free-run must is separated and fermented in steel vats at a controlled temperature. The wine ages for 6 months in steel in contact with the fine lees.
