Jermann

Jermann's is a success story that represents the triumph of Italian white wines in the world.
The family origin is Austrian, the Jermanns arrived in the Collio area (northeast corner of Italy on the border with Slovenia) as early as the end of the 19th century, starting agricultural activity here that led them to manage nowadays 200 hectares of land, of which 170 are vineyards; the rest is dedicated to other crops. In the 1970s, Silvio Jermann became well known on the Italian and world wine scene. After studying wine making in Italy (at Conegliano and San Michele all’Adige) he flew to Canada for a training. Back home, he started working in the family business and created enological masterpieces.
With the 1975 vintage he made a wine that will become a legend: the Vintage Tunina. Italian journalist Veronelli described it as "a wine without equal".
Silvio gave the company an impulse of modernity and inventiveness without forgetting the territorial origins. It is precisely the particular vocation of the border area between Italy and Slovenia that dictates the environmental conditions from which Jermann’s wines draw energy and personality. In that area the microclimate is mitigated by the proximity of the sea of the Gulf of Trieste and protected by the mountain ranges behind it.
The soil is particular, alluvial in nature and well drained, with limestone and sometimes even with clay and red gravel.
The winery works with respect for environment and biodiversity, having abolished any type of treatment of chemical origin in the vineyard and artificial preservatives.
