Guido Berlucchi

If Franciacorta is the name of a wine, this is due to Guido Berlucchi, who first put the name Franciacorta on a bottle of sparkling white wine in 1961. Berlucchi wanted to produce a great white wine from a territory (that of Franciacorta), in which mostly red wines were produced at the time. He hired the young winemaker Franco Ziliani, who had the smart idea to make a sparkling wine through the traditional method, that is, by imitating Champagne.
That 1961 wine gave way to a phenomenon that in the 1980s made people talk about the Miracle of Franciacorta. Since 2000, after the death of Guido Berlucchi, Franco Ziliani took over the company, now managed by his 3 children.
