The compact clay gives the wine firm structure and pronounced fruity flavors.
It is a white wine made with the indigenous Turbiana grape grown on the southern shore of Lake Garda. The territory of the Lugana DOC is located on the border between the provinces of Brescia and Verona. Although it was a marshy woodland, the Lugana area was already renowned for the quality of its wines in ancient times. With the dominion of the Serenissima Republic of Venice, the place was definitively reclaimed and deforested starting from the 1400s. Today Lugana is the most exported Lombard wine, loved by tourists who visit Lake Garda.
It has been discovered that the Turbiana grape variety is nothing more than a clone of Verdicchio from a genetic point of view, but the fact is that the grapes that grow in the lake clay of this territory give wines with a unique personality, medium body and pleasant fruity aromas.
The Lugana I Frati white wine is the most representative wine of the Cà dei Frati winery, the one that represents the fresh and tasty style of the Garda whites.
The grapes are gently pressed and the free-run must ferments in steel vats at a controlled temperature. The wine ages for 6 months in steel in contact with the fine lees. Malolactic fermentation is not carried out to retain lively acidity.
