Villa Russiz
Villa Russiz is an important Friulian winery with a romantic history behind it, managed by a foundation that uses the returns from the sale of wine to finance humanitarian activities. The property of Villa Russiz was a wedding gift from Giulio Ettore Ritter de Záhony to his daughter Elvine Ritter de Zàhony, who married Count Theodor Karl Leopold Anton de la Tour Voivrè of French origin in 1868.
The agricultural activity and wine production project was born from this property in a suitable area of the Collio (province of Gorizia). It is said that the shoots for the new vineyard came from France. Villa Russiz became a wine supplier of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The wines of Villa Russiz were also served at the tables of the Tsars.
During the First World War the villa was transformed into a lazaret and military hospital; at the end of the war, the estate became Italian like all of eastern Friuli.
Villa Russiz was one of the founders of the DOC Collio. Over the past 20 years it has received numerous awards for his wines, that demonstrate great quality and value.
Villa Russiz manages 45 hectares of vineyards in the village of Capriva del Friuli in the province of Gorizia.
