Easy-drinking and typical wine from Collio.
Ribolla gialla is a native grape variety of Collio; its main features are floral and citrus aromas and good acidity. The Ribolla Gialla Villa Russiz comes from the Collio hills in the municipality of Capriva del Friuli. The vineyards extend over slopes between 100 and 300 m above sea level with 4500-5500 plants per hectare. The soil is a former seabed made by layers of sandstone and marl of ancient geological origin. This soil, locally called "Ponca", is rich in minerals and combined with the marked temperature variations determines the well-defined character of Collio wines.
The manual harvest is done in the early hours of the morning when the air temperature is still cool. Grapes are pressed and the free-run must, after being clarified by decanting, undergoes alcoholic fermentation in steel vats at a controlled temperature. It remains on fine lees a few months before being bottled.
