In the 1960s, Francesco Paolo Avallone, a lawyer and passionate lover of ancient wines, inspired by the tales of ancient writers, decided to bring the legendary vinum Falernum, which had disappeared in the early 1900s, back to life. With the help of friends and university professors, he identified the original Roman grape varieties and replanted them in the Massico region, thus creating Villa Matilde Avallone.

Their commitment is reflected in their 'Zero Emissions' project, which demonstrates how it is possible to produce wine sustainably using modern technology.

The company is dedicated to an in-depth study of the ancient grape varieties that have contributed to the region's historic wines, such as Aglianico, Piedirosso and Falanghina. This constant research is accompanied by a reinterpretation of traditions, thanks to the use of state-of-the-art tools.
