The Thiénot maison belongs to the category of Négotiant Manipulant, but it is an independent family house, founded only in 1985 by Alain Thiénot after a career as a banker. For Alain Thiénot it was a return to origins, having been born in the Champagne region; moreover before founding his own maison, in addition to the profession of banker, he dealt with the grape trade for about ten years and since the 70s he had invested in region by purchasing vineyards in the grand cru villages of Aÿ and Mesnil-sur-Oger. So the debut in 1985 took place on a solid basis. The maison owns 27 hectares of vineyards in reliable villages and procures grapes from a number of well-known growers.
The cellar is located in Taissy in the Montagne de Reims and is equipped with modern stainless steel vats with temperature control for the fermentation of base wines. The very long aging of Champagnes takes place in underground tunnels under the city of Reims.
Thiénot however is much more than a maison, it is a group that also includes the brands Canard-Duchêne, Joseph Perrier and Marie Stuart as well as investments in Bordeaux and southern France.
