Tenuta del Buonamico
Tenuta del Buonamico is a modern winery located on the Montecarlo hill between the cities of Lucca and Montecatini in Tuscany. It is an area of gentle hills historically suited to the cultivation of vines and olive trees. Since the Middle Ages the wines of Montecarlo were appreciated and marketed; at one point there was even talk of "Chablis from Montecarlo" to refer to the quality of the whites. Since the end of the 19th century, French grape varieties have been cultivated, brought by a famous winemaker after a trip to France, in order to improve the wines of the area. Here, right from the start, international grape varieties have been included in the Montecarlo DOC specification.
Turin restaurateurs founded Tenuta del Buonamico in the 1960s to produce wine to be sold in their own restaurants. The current project, however, was born when the Fontana family, already active in the production of oil, bought the estate, expanding it with modern criteria and making use of experienced collaborators. Today it has 45 hectares of specialized vineyards cultivated mainly with international varieties, but also with Trebbiano, Vermentino, Sangiovese and Canaiolo. With an in-depth study starting from the characteristics of the soils, they have developed a wide range of wines. In particular, thay produce a line of sparkling wines with the tank method; an original production in Tuscany.
In the vineyard and in the cellar they work with an avant-garde approach, respecting environmental sustainability and quality winemaking.
