Aldo Rainoldi is one of the main souls of the Valtellina wine; Rainoldi is a family-run winery that is about to turn 100 years of history. In fact, the business was founded in 1925 as a wine merchant. They soon started buying grapes and making wine, selling the wine not only in bulk but also in bottles and finally they began to cultivate terraced vineyards on the northern slope of Valtellina. The company headquarters is located in Chiuro in the county of Sondrio, along the provincial road that crosses the Valtellina parallel to the Adda river.
The vineyards are located in various villages of Valtellina, all terraced with dry stone walls, difficult to reach with tractors. All the operations in the vineyards are carried out by hand, in an artisanal way and for the harvest the only tool that helps is the rental of a helicopter to quickly bring the grapes harvested in the vineyards at high altitude in the cellar in the valley floor.
The range of wines includes all types of Valtellina wines from the young and lively Rosso to the more structured and aged Valtellina Superiore wines, up to the Risverva typology, that has a great personality and potential for aging. Rainoldi also produces two different Sforzato della Valtellina labels: one more traditional and one more modern. Finally with the grapes of the highest vineyards it also produces outstanding traditional method sparkling wines starting from Nebbiolo grapes. From about 16 hectares of vineyards, Rainoldi produces an average of 185,000 bottles a year.
