Pannier

Today Pannier is the main Champagne brand of the COVAMA cooperative. In reality, Pannier was born as a négotiant not far from Epernay in 1899 with Louis-Eugène Pannier. The business later moved to Château-Thierry in the Marne Valley where it benefits from underground tunnels dug in the Middle Ages to extract stones for the construction of the city.
In the 1970s, the heirs of the Pannier family decided to sell the business to the Covama cooperative, which has kept the Pannier brand alive and even made it its most prestigious brand. For the production it procures grapes from selected vineyards: Chardonnay comes from the Côte des Blancs, Pinot noir from the Montagne de Reims and Pinot meunier from the Vallée de La Marne.

The style of Champagne Pannier is based on the prevalent use of black berried grapes: 35% Pinot noir which gives strength and structure to the wine and 30% Pinot meunier which amplifies its fruity aromas. The remaining 35% of grapes used is Chardonnay, which however plays a decisive role for its elegance. The experience in the selection of grapes and the expertise in the art of blending allow the chef de cave to create a fairly articulated range of labels.
