Today the Domaine Olivier Pithon is a point of reference in the wine scene of Roussillon and for lovers of natural wines. Olivier Pithon is a young winemaker from the Loire Valley. He took his first steps in winemaking on the family estate in Anjou; he studied oenology and practised in the Bordeaux region. In 2000 he set up his own activity by acquiring an estate in the village of Calce, in the Eastern Pyrenees, with old Carignan vineyards. From these vineyards on schist soil at an altitude of 200-300 m, you can see the Mediterranean Sea to the east and the high mountains to the southwest.
After moving to Roussillon, he established himself within a few years as the excellence of this small French region on the border with Spain, so much so that he has already won two stars from the prestigious Revue du Vin de France.
Olivier Pithon's work is based on the choice of organic and biodynamic practices, it enhances the territorial peculiarities, that is the native grape varieties of the region. Its 22 hectares of vineyards are cultivated half with white grapes, Macabeu, Grenache gris and Grenache blanc and half with black grapes, Grenache noir, Carignan and Mourvèdre. In some cases he also buys grapes from third parties. He produces about 120,000 bottles a year.
