Mosnel
The brothers Giulio and Lucia Barzanò manage the Mosnel company, that has belonged to their family since 1836. Their Franciacorta wines reveal a precise link with the territory and an harmonious style.Although Franciacorta was born in recent times, already in the 17th century Camignone, the locality where the Mosnel estate is located, was renowned for the quality of its wines.
The family business took the name Mosnel in 1976. Mosnel in the local dialect means heap of stones, to remember the typical territory in which the 41 hectares of vineyards extend. It is a terrain that was formed following the advance and retreat of glaciers in prehistoric times. This glaciations activity has left in Franciacorta accumulations of debris, crushed rock, stones from the Alps. These accumulations form gentle low hills, and have unique characteristics. There is very little clay and little limestone, but many minerals; moreover it is an extremely draining soil. These conditions favor the development of grapes that generate fine and fragrant wines.
The Mosnel winery is still located in the old sixteenth-century residence, where they work with extreme care and dedication with a well trained staff. The vineyards are all managed with certified organic farming. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and some Pinot Blanc with high planting density, ranging from 5000 to 8000 plants per hectare, are grown. In the cellar, a particularity of Mosnel is to use wooden barrels for the vinification of base wines, in order to obtain complex wines.
The Mosnel winery works only with its own grapes and produces an average of 250,000 bottles a year.
