Masi
Sandro Boscaini, president of Masi Agricola, has been defined as “Mister Amarone”. This is enough to understand the stature of the man and the reputation of his winery.
The winery was founded in 1772 when the Boscaini family bought the first vineyards in the valley called "Vaio dei Masi"; hence the name. Since then, the Boscaini family has continued the business, reaching the seventh generation with exponential growth. Today Masi is one of the main Italian wineries and is certainly one of the protagonists of the success of Valpolicella wines in the world.
Sandro Boscaini has made Amarone known all over the world, more than anyone else. Moreover his research and development activity has resulted in consolidated practices shared by many and codified in appellations’ requirements.
In the 1960s, with Campofiorin wine, he anticipated everyone with the idea of Ripasso. In the 1980s, with Professor Scienza from the University of Milan, he re-evaluated native grape varieties that had almost disappeared and are now included in the specifications for Valpolicella wines. Among all he has rediscovered the prized Oseleta grape, of which today Masi has 8 hectares.
But with no doubt the cornerstone of Masi's success is Amarone and its in-depth studies on drying techniques. Today Masi produces 5 Amarone labels, some of which are absolute masterpieces. Masi Agricola today is a group with possessions outside the Veneto region in the main areas of Italy and even in Argentina.
Masi Agricola has 640 hectares of vineyards and produces 4.2 million bottles a year.
