Maison Mumm

The history of the Maison Mumm dates back to 1761, when the Mumm family opened the first wine production and trading business in Cologne, Germany, under the name P.A.Mumm, named after the owner Peter Arnold Mumm.

In 1827, Peter's three sons Jacobus, Gottlieb and Philipp decided to cross the borders and open a branch of the company in Reims with the help of G. Heuser, a local agent.

In 1852, Georges Hermann Mumm took over the management of the company, which from that moment on was named G.H.Mumm. Thanks to his many travels, by the beginning of the 20th century Georges had already been able to have some 20 companies around the world, including the United States, Brazil and Russia.

In 1876, Georges decided to register the trademark 'Cordon Rouge', the red ribbon on the label that immediately became the distinctive symbol of the brand's success.

In 1904, Maison Mumm was appointed the official Champagne supplier to the British royal family.

In more recent times, the company has had several owners, until 2005, when it was bought by Pernod Ricard, a French multinational specialising in the production and distribution of wines and spirits.
