Lanson

Lanson is the ninth Champagne house for production and one of the most important in the history of Reims sparkling wines. It was founded in 1760 by Jean-Baptiste Lanson, former partner of the Delamotte maison.
The Lanson Champagnes had immediate success, in fact in the 19th century they arrived at the court of Queen Victoria and Lanson became the supplier of Buckingham Palace. In the second half of the 1900s, Lanson was among the first producers in Champagne to introduce steel vats for fermentation and to use Aube's Pinot Noir.
Lanson Champagnes have always been produced at the forefront until they suffered a financial crisis, following which the maison changed ownership and became part of the luxury group LVMH.
LVMH however kept the vineyards by reselling the brand and the winery to Philippe Baijot. The maison was reborn with Baijot in 2006 relying only on purchased grapes, but with the same Lanson style, maintained by the chèf de cave. The Lanson style is based on Pinot Noir, no malolactic fermentation and prolonged aging of at least 3 years even for the simplest products. Lanson Champagnes are fresh, powerful and fruity, also meant to be long-lived.
