Köfererhof

Literally Köfererhof means "Köferer farm" and boasts a very ancient history in the Isarco Valley, the northernmost in Italy, already existing before the year 1000. It is located in a unique position, on steep and sometimes terraced slopes on the left bank of the Isarco river.
The vineyards extend between 650 and 700 m on rocky terrain. The subsoil of the Isarco Valley is composed of granite and gneiss and is rich in minerals such as quartz and mica. Furthermore, the climate is decidedly alpine, subject to harsh winter conditions; in the summer there are many hours of sunlight and the maximum daytime temperatures are high, guaranteeing perfect ripening of the grapes; however, in the evening the temperature drops rapidly, creating significant diurnal range. This favors ideal conditions for the cultivation of white grapes, which give fragrant, mineral and precise wines, with an incomparable personality.

The farm has been in the same family for three generations. Today the young Günther Kerschbaumer leads the company together with his wife Gaby; he started producing white wines on his own with the name of Köfererhof on the label at the end of the 1990s, as previously the family gave the grapes to the nearby Abbey of Novacella, according to a common practice among all the farmers in the area. Köfererhof vineyards are only 6 hectares, masterfully managed and cultivated with the white grape varieties typical of the Isarco Valley such as Riesling, Kerner, Sylvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Grüner Veltliner and Gewürztraminer. The style of winemaking is very accurate and occurs mainly in reductive environment, to preserve freshness and fragrant flavours in the wines.
