Idda is a joint venture between the great Piedmontese winery Gaja and the Sicilian producer and oenologist Albero Aiello Graci. The Etna area in the last twenty years has attracted investors and producers from many regions and also from abroad. The wines of Etna are experiencing incredible success.
The charm of the Volcano, or the "Mountain", as Etna is called by those who live there, has made this area one of the liveliest places of Italian wine production today. That's why Gaja wanted to participate in this success, choosing as a partner one of the most authoritative producers of Etna wines: the Graci winery. From this collaboration was born Idda, which in Sicilian dialect means "she" and obviously refers to "the Mountain" or Etna.
The project starts in 2016 with 20 hectares of vineyards on the southwestern slope of the volcano cone between 600 and 800 meters above sea level in the villages of Belpasso and Biancavilla. Here only native varieties are grown, above all the two main ones: Nerello mascalese and Carricante. The annual production is 52,000 bottles.
