Guicciardini Strozzi

The two Guicciardini and Strozzi families have both been protagonists of the history of Tuscany. The Guicciardini Strozzi branch originated at the beginning of the twentieth century thanks to the marriage of Francesco Guicciardini with Luisa Strozzi (the last descendant of the Strozzi family). While the Strozzi developed their power as bankers and financiers, the Guicciardinis were great landowners and have played a leading role in Florentine political history. Their main estate, the Cusona farm, extends for over 500 m in front of the medieval town of San Gimignano in the province of Siena. Here the Guicciardini Strozzi family produced Vernaccia already in the time of Lorenzo de 'Medici.

We owe in particular to Francesco Guicciardini, former mayor of Florence and Minister of Agriculture, for having transformed the Cusona farm into a cutting-edge farm and for having laid the foundations for the success of Vernaccia di San Gimignano which in 1966 will be the first Italian wine to boast the DOC (it became DOCG in 1993).

Recently the Guicciardini Strozzi family have also made investments in other areas of Tuscany and Italy: in Bolgheri, Maremma and Pantelleria, coming to offer a range of up to 22 different types of wine. Undoubtedly Vernaccia di San Gimignano remains the most important wine of the company, with which its history is most identified; it is offered in several versions, which are considered to be the reference points of the denomination, labels known and appreciated all over the world.

From their 100 hectares of vineyards Guicciardini Strozzi produces 600,000 bottles a year with a very varied range of labels.
