Donna Olimpia was founded by Guido Folonari in Bolgheri. In reality he acquired an existing estate by renovating it and even the name existed, in fact Olimpia was the wife of Gherardo della Gherardesca, owner of the estate, who on the occasion of the 25th wedding anniversary in 1898 dedicated the estate to his wife. It is no coincidence that “Donna Olimpia 1898” is reported on the labels.
Guido Folonari acquired Donna Olimpia in 2002 and restructured it to make it a state-of-the-art cellar following the trend of the successful Bolgheri wines. Guido defines his production philosophy with 3 words: elegance, finesse and drinkability and wants to be a protagonist of the growth of the Bolgheri appellation.
He manages 45 hectares of vineyards located in the southernmost part of the appellation between the via Aurelia and the via Bolgherese.
