Concha y Toro is the largest wine producer in Chile and is the main winery in the entire South American continent. It started the business in 1983 at a family level, thanks to the initiative of Melchor Concha y Toro who planted the first vines with rooted cuttings brought from Bordeaux. Today Concha y Toro is a large industrial group, always in the hands of the family, and cultivates international grape varieties in many wine regions of Chile, from which it produces an extensive range of labels divided among many styles and in every price range.
Chile is an important country for the production of wine, in fact from Chile come wines of excellent level capable of comparing themselves with the best Italian, French and Californian labels; Chile has developed a rational approach to the market to also produce simple low-cost wines that can be exported all over the world.
One of Concha y Toro's successful labels is Casillero del Diablo, based on Cabernet, which will become one of the most influential labels in the world; in 2010 Casillero del Diablo was sponsor of the English football team Manchester United. Their 2010 Melchor wine was placed among the 10 best wines in the world by Wine Spectator magazine.
