Cesani

The Cesani winery is a leader in the production of Vernaccia di San Gimignano, the historical and traditional white wine of Tuscany. However Cesani boasts a high level range including red wines, which in San Gimignano are less famous, but no less interesting. It is an activity that has always been managed at a family level. Towards the middle of the last century, the Cesani family settled on the hill of San Gimignano, buying a farm in the locality of Pancole to make a living from the products of the land and from cattle breeding. It was Vincenzo Cesani who later specialized in the production of wine and extra virgin olive oil, now supported by his daughters Marialuisa and Teresa. Over the years the estate has grown to a total of 30 hectares of vineyards, located between the locations of Pancole, San Paolo and Cellole on the north side of San Gimignano.

The bond with the territory is the strong point of the Cesani winery, which prides itself on knowing the soil of each of its vineyards in an intimate way and working accordingly to get the most out of the wines. Since 2008 the winery has been certified organic. The soils of the Pancole area are of sedimentary origin, deriving from a seabed. They have a sandy or clayey texture and are rich in Pliocene fossil shells. The vineyards have varying altitudes between 250 and 360 m.
