Casisano
The Casisano estate covers over 50 hectares, of which less than half are planted with vineyards, on the south-east side of Montalcino and has belonged to the Venetian Tommasi family since 2015. It was founded as a winery in 1990 by a Roman family.
The vineyards extend in the upper part of the Montalcino hill, 480 meters above sea level, halfway between Sant’Angelo in Colle and Castelnuovo dell’Abate. It is a highly suitable area, which is greatly affected by the impact of Monte Amiata on the microclimate, in fact it is one of the least rainy areas of Montalcino.
The altitude guarantees significant temperature variations between night and day, that mitigate the hottest influence that comes from the Tyrrhenian coast. The terrain is varied and includes clay shist, sandstone, marl and tuff of volcanic origin. The wines of this area are distinguished by their structure, pronounced tannins and precious acidity, which makes Sangiovese great and guarantees excellent aging potential.
The vineyards cultivated with Sangiovese to produce Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino are 16 hectares, another 6 hectares are cultivated with other varieties to produce wines in the DOC Sant’Antimo. The production of Brunello takes place according to tradition; alcoholic fermentation takes place with spontaneous yeasts and the wines are refined in large barrels, without haste.
