Caol Ila is one of the 8 distilleries on the Scottish island of Islay, founded in 1846. The distillery is located in the north of the island and for a long time its whiskeys have been used for the production of blended whiskeys from other brands. Its production is based on 6 elongated stills, which give balanced and gentle whiskeys, with a peaty note that is never intrusive.
Over the years it has changed ownership many times and today belongs to the DAEGO group and its Single Malts have entered the “Classic Malts” line. In reality these represent only a small part of the production, as most of Caol Ila whiskeys are sold for the creation of blended whiskeys of other brands.
The main Single Malts of Caol Ila are two: one aged 12 years and one aged 18 years. Only in 2010 Caol Ila realease its first Single Malt aged 25 years.
