Cantine Lunae

The name Lunae refers to the ancient port of Luni, an Etruscan city later colonized by the Romans. When Paolo Bosoni founded his winery in 1966 he chose the name Lunae to underline his attachment with the territory of Luni and its origin. The appreciation for Luni wines, produced in the hills between the Sea and the Apuan Alps, was already testified in the texts of Roman writers. This is the easternmost part of Liguria on the border with Tuscany, where despite the northern latitude you can enjoy a Mediterranean microclimate, mild due to the proximity of the sea and the protection of the mountains.
Cantine Lunae is the main representative of the Colli di Luni area, but it is also one of the main wineries in all of Liguria; certainly it is from the point of view of numbers: with 85 hectares of vineyards it is the one with the largest vineyard extension. It is not a single vineyard but it is made up of many plots located from the plains up to the hills. The soils differ from vineyard to vineyard: more compact and rich in rocks in the hilly vineyards, more loamy and clayey towards the plain.
The vineyards are worked with no use of herbicides and artificial fertilizers, the harvest is manual. The strength point of Cantine Lunae is Vermentino, elaborated in various labels, some of which have become icons for enthusiasts; for the rest, only native varieties are grown such as Albarola, Vermentino nero, Pollera nera, Massareta and Malvasia.
