Canonica a Cerreto was founded a thousand years ago as the second abbey of the Church of Siena, which later became a Renaissance residence; for three hundred years it was the summer residence of the Bishops of Siena. Today it is a private estate that offers hospitality, produces oil and wine.
It is located in the southernmost territory of the Chianti Classico, in the municipality of Castelnuovo Berardenga 12 km from Siena. The estate includes 21 hectares of vineyards located at 380 meters above sea level, with an open view of the Crete Senesi.
The limestone-clayey soil and the warm-ventilated climate are ideal for elegant, fragrant wines with great structure. They mainly grow Sangiovese from which they produce the traditional Chianti Classico, but they did not miss the habit of a modern wine, also cultivating a little Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
