Candido

The winery of the Candido family represents the winemaking tradition of Salento in an excellent way. It has been doing this for almost a century now with its 110 hectares of organic bush-trained vineyards halfway between the Adriatic and Ionian Seas.
The vineyards extend in particular around San Donaci and above all enjoy a lot of sunlight, ventilation which also determines temperature variations between night and day and have a clayey-calcareous soil.
It was 1929 when the Candido family's adventure in northern Salento began from the reclamation of marshy land. Since then they have always gone forward in the enhancement of the territory through the production of wines with native vine varieties such as Negroamaro, Primitivo and Malvasia Nera. In the post-war period, Candido was one of the first Apulian wineries to bottle their wines and sell them with their own brand, when still most of the Apulian wine was sold in bulk and considered mostly blending wine.
With the 1974 harvest they put on the market for the first time the Cappello di Prete wine, a pure Negroamaro interpreted in a modern key, still today one of the most important wines of Candido and one of the most appreciated Negroamaro of Puglia. Over time, they have invested in equipments in step with the times to produce wines that are always up to the demands of the market. Today Candido is a leading name in Salento, it has received important national recognition and exports its wines to many countries around the world.
