Baron Longo is a contemporary project of organic and biodynamic viticulture with very ancient roots. The estate has belonged for 4 centuries to the Baron Longo-Liebenstein family of Wellenburg und Langenstein, located along the Adige valley in the municipality of Egna (south of Bolzano). It played an important role as a wine supplier to the Austrian Empire, but the two World Wars were devastating and the business had stopped.
Anton Longo, the youngest descendant of the family, has decided to renew the tradition starting from 2015.
The choice of organic and biodynamic agriculture banishes artificial fertilizers and chemicals from the soil, moreover the company mainly uses renewable energy precisely with the utmost respect for environment.
The new vineyards were planted at higher altitudes in order to counteract the effects of climate warming. Baron Longo cultivates native varieties and international varieties, which for over a century have now settled in the territory of South Tyrol, such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
