Merlot Quercegrosse 2020

Quercegrosse is a pure Merlot that comes from the south of Chianti Classico, exactly from the village of Castelnuovo Berardenga. The Chianti area has proved to be very suitable for the production of great wines from Merlot, which can compare with the greatest red wines in the world. Quercegrosse also aims to be such a great wine, with a rich and generous taste, easy to enjoy thanks to its immediate fruity exuberance and its velvety texture. Vallepicciola’s Merlot Quercegrosse comes from a single vineyard of 2.72 hectares, called Poggione, facing south-west at an altitude of 350-400 m; it has limestone and clay in the soil, as is usual in Chianti and it has a planting density of 5000 vines per hectare. The yield is very low, in order to have concentrated grapes that turn into a powerful and structured Merlot. The Merlot harvest takes place at the end of September. After being de-stemmed, the grapes ferment in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature with a total maceration of 20-25 days in order to extract many substances from the skins. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in barrique and ages for over a year in French oak barriques of which 30% are new.
