San Benedetto is a small family business with an important history, linked for 2 centuries to the production of wine in San Gimignano in Tuscany. Since 1826 the Giannelli family has been producing wines as well as other agricultural products from a farm with vineyards in San Benedetto on the northern slope of the San Gimignano hill in the province of Siena. The business was managed in sharecropping, a very common system in Italy until the 1960s.
In 1975, after the abolition of sharecropping, they managed to acquire land and began their own business with the name of Azienda Agricola Giannelli. The activities are going well and the estate grows little by little until it feels the need to build a larger and more modern cellar. Since 1998 the company has taken the name of Azienda Agricola San Benedetto, again in the hands of the Giannelli family, which also develops a line of bottles of Vernaccia di San Gimignano and Chianti.
Today the range is quite articulated and is characterized by an artisan attention to detail and respect for the territory. Vernaccia di San Gimignano, the only Tuscan white wine with the DOCG, is the most important wine of San Benedetto, produced with love and in a traditional style, pure without contamination with international grape varieties. From 27 hectares of vineyards, San Benedetto produces 50,000 bottles a year, the rest is sold in bulk.
