The founding of the Lochnagar distillery dates back to 1845, although a distillery had existed as early as 1824, but was twice destroyed by fire. It is situated in a beautiful location near the Balmoral castle in the Highlands.
After a visit from Prince Albert and Queen Victoria in 1848, the distillery gained the Royal Warranty from the British court and was renamed Royal Lochnagar. It is still a small distillery, which bottles only a part of its Whiskys, thus making them niche products. It works with two traditional copper pot stills that operate in sequence. Royal Lochnagar Scotch Whiskys are appreciated for their very classic taste.
