Today the Oltrenero estate is one of the largest in the Oltrepò Pavese with 130 hectares of vineyards and a production of 80,000 bottles per year. It proves to the commitment of the owners, the Venetian Zonin family, in this area. The winery project was born in 1987 when the Zonin bought the Tenuta Il Bosco on land that had been planted with vines since the Middle Ages by the Benedictines, as well as in Burgundy.

The Oltrepò Pavese has in common the cultivation of Pinot Noir with Burgundy, although here it is mainly used as a sparkling base. The Oltrenero vineyards extend over gentle rolling hills with a multiplicity of exposures and slopes. The soils are made of clay and limestone of sedimentary origin. A prerogative of the winery is the management of the vineyard with great care at every stage, from the pruning of the plants to the harvest, which is often carried out in two moments to pick grapes only at the very right moment of ripeness.

The Oltrenero winery has specialized in sparkling wine making and has a reputation for the executive precision of its Classic Method sparkling wines, which over the years have won favorable reviews from numerous magazines and critics. In addition to Pinot Noir, the winery cultivates the traditional grapes of the area, especially Barbera and Croatina.
