Who does not know Nardini grappas? Nardini is the oldest Italian distillery to which we owe the transformation of grappa from homemade raw spirit into a refined and valuable product made in a precise manner. Bortolo Nardini, originally from the Val di Cembra in Trentino, began his business in 1779 in Bassano, turning a common practice of the Alpine valleys into a real business.
Before that, Bortolo used to move from city to city with his mobile alembic to distil grappa on behalf of third parties. It is no coincidence that Bassano is considered the capital of grappa. Here was born in 1779 the first grappa in Italy. Bortolo Nardini started buying pomace and transforming it into grappa. The same activity has been perpetuated by the Nardini family in the following decades up to the present day, knowing how to innovate and keeping up with the times. Among the important innovations we mention the introduction of the use of steam instead of direct fire for a more gentle and precise distillation. The aging of grappa in wooden barrels, in the manner of Cognac, was also one of Nardini's innovations. Finally, since 1963, Nardini has been applying vacuum distillation, which favors the purity of the most delicate aromas such as floral ones. Nardini has never lost its leadership in the grappa production sector. Today the Nardini distillery produces a wide range of grappas, spirits and liqueurs.
