Murgo is a family-run winery located on the eastern side of Etna Volcano in the municipality of Santa Venerina. The estate has belonged to the Scammacca family for over a century but only in 1981 Emanuele Scammacca, at the end of a career as an ambassador, decided to devote himself to the production of quality wines. Today the business is carried on by his son Michele.

Murgo vineyards lie at 500 meters above sea level with excellent south and south-east exposure. From the vineyards you can see the sea in the distance, you can breathe the salty air and above all you can enjoy a great brightness. At the same time, the altitude makes the climate cooler than in the rest of the island with significant temperature diurnal rage in summer. These conditions favor the production of fresh and fragrant wines, especially when they are combined with the volcanic soil.
The 30 hectares of vineyards are all registered in the DOC Etna, but in recent years Murgo has added an interesting line of traditional method sparkling wines, made with the native Nerello Mascalese grape. In this Murgo was a pioneer of a production now followed by many producers.
The company owns 40 hectares of vineyards, managed in a sustainable way, and produces 300,000 bottles a year.
